Hiunchuli Peak Climbing

Hiunchuli Peak Climbing

Himchuli peak is at the elevation of 6441m and forms a massive south-facing wall together with Annapurna south. The eastern face of the peaks overlooks Modikhola and guards the entrance to the Annapourna sanctuary. It was first climbed by the American Peace Corps Expedition in October 1971. This peak is technically difficult, and vulnerable to rock falls and route finding is also problematic sometimes. It also offers other major new route potentials. It is rarely climbed and received the little attention from the mountaineers.

Hiunchuli Peak ClimbingThis trek begins above Pokhara valley. The trail leads up slowly towards Annapurna base camp which is situated at an altitude of 4300m. We spent one day in the base camp for exploration and acclimatization. The Annapurna base camp is also known as Hiunchuli base camp. We allocate three to four days for climbing the peak and then we return Pokhara valley by the same route as in the Annapurna Sanctuary trek.

You need some mountaineering skills to attempt the summit. It also makes easy to get the climbing permission. The formidable front wall of the sanctuary has a fearsome reputation and there is no 'standard' route up. Any route is a challenging technical climb with devilish route finding, and is best tackled in true.
